United We Stand

Our vision for the future of the United States of America is all about pulling in the same direction. It seems that this country has lost its way. We all have been divided up, chopped up, amped up, and at each other’s throats for far too long. This push towards division we see amongst ourselves is intentional and we must acknowledge who has been to blame. It is the endless cadre of corporate interests in our government and the social media companies making money off of our outrage.

We can no longer afford to see one another as “Liberal” or “Conservative,” “Left Wing” or “Right Wing”, and most importantly of all “enemy” or “patriot.” Our democracy is on the line right now and fighting amongst ourselves about petty differences will ensure its destruction. In this moment, we all only have to believe one thing to come together: democracy and rule of law should never give way to fascism in America. Hell, we know that some of us might never agree with the way other Americans live their lives. The truth is though, we don’t need to force a country wide monoculture in order to be free. Freedom is only truly freedom, when it applies to everyone. Not just when someone shares our world view. America used to remember that. We fought wars for it as a matter of fact, many wars.

Looking to the future, we want to see healthy people with happy lives. Hear stories of new promotions and new wedding vows. Grin in elation when we walk into our first house, one that doesn’t cost a fortune. Be comforted by families that grow old together and take care of one another. Sing to loved ones celebrating birthdays with triple digits. Revel at our kids and grandkids optimism for the future, unburdened by the failings of the past and the threat of climate change. Tear up at graduation ceremonies knowing aspiring graduates will find good paying jobs and not be saddled with crippling debts.

We want to feel the world at peace and at ease. Salute American soldiers that guard the world, knowing that they won’t be asked to make the ultimate sacrifice without just cause and provocation. Wave our American flags in pride, knowing that the United States of America once again stands for democracy, justice, and freedom all around the world. Trust that our elected officials finally work for us again. Welcome to our country those that flee the evil deeds of men, no matter how different they may seem to us.

We want to send help and have respect for those that have had tragedy befall them. Assist rebuilding when natural disaster strikes. Know that when we fall ill, we won’t go bankrupt just trying to get better. Eradicate wretched diseases like cancer, Alzheimer’s, HIV, and malaria. Rest assured, that when taken advantage of, we get our money back and the bad guys go to jail. Apply for jobs, confident knowing that whoever gets them is based off of the content of their character and merit, not discrimination.

When we travel the vastness of this country, we want to be awe struck by our engineering feats and endless tenacity. Witness the wondrousness of nature that our National Parks provide. Worry only about running out of snacks when we take to the skies, ride the rails, and drive the roads. Swell with pride when visiting our national memorials, museums, and monuments. Contemplate how we can help propel our country’s greatness and act as national stewards as countless generations have before us.

We want to witness American innovation push the boundaries of science and technology into what the 21st century deserves. Hold our breath when we watch our astronauts preparing to touch down on Mars in NASA made rockets. We want America to lead the world again. Not because we have the largest military, but because our values and unending drive towards greatness for mankind attracts willing followers.

What WE do matters. WE the people. Not they the naysayers, the corporations, the talking heads, nor the irredeemably hateful. The choice is simple, either we continue on our path towards self-destruction, or re-embrace one another in a renewed commitment to our democracy, freedom, and shared future. Choose wisely.

God bless the United States of America.
