Stoking anger fuels media companies’ profits

We find ourselves in the hyperconnected digital age. It seems that every minute of every day, some new notification pops up to tell you how outraged you should be. This nation cannot continue to survive if our citizens let media companies divide us for the sake of their own profit. Legacy media, new media, and social media make a killing off of telling us all how much we should hate one another. Please, if you love America, stop watching the talking heads as if they are anything but biased sensationalists.

Over and over, we see lies go unchecked and allowed to masquerade as news. This needs to end. Truth in journalism matters. Facts matter. Reality matters. Not spin or outrage bating. Part of our mission will be to hold these media companies up to the light of day and see which ones burst into flame from the scrutiny. Never has it been so obviously important that Americans need to reconnect with a shared reality.

For social media companies, we want to do 3 things:

1. Make it illegal for anyone below the age of 16 to have a social media account, regardless of parental permission. All social media companies with users younger than that, must purge their databases.

2. Mandate that there is an alternative to the algorithm that has an un-fungible metric like sort by chronological order of post time. This could take other forms like sort by friends only content. We believe that this can help prevent social media spiraling, and other forms of mental manipulation that are detrimental to citizens’ mental wellbeing. We want to end doomscrolling and the mental anguish that arises from a user’s post intentionally being hidden from friends, therefore creating a sense of misery.

3. Social media companies must authenticate users’ real identities. They will also be required to eliminate propaganda from user’s feeds, regardless of election season.

We like to err on the side of free speech and business autonomy, but it has become necessary to reign in media outlets that disregard the gigantic negative externalities that their companies create. The public should no longer bear the cost of what is seemingly psychological warfare, for the sake of profit. We at the Anti-Corruption Party plan to do something about it. Join us.

Frequently Asked Questions

What about Tik Tok?

We expect to have to monitor the app closely. However, this doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be available in the US. It does mean however, it must conform to the standards set above.

How are you going to get social media to comply?

To put it simply, the US government has the power to compel businesses to behave. These companies aren’t charities. They are internally aware of the consequences of their actions and they need to own the outcomes.

What’s wrong with legacy media?

Right wing legacy media and some outlets on the left act as de facto propaganda arms for their respective parties, in our opinion. Many of the others have a bias towards whoever is advertising on their channel and are pro business in general.

Is the Anti-Corruption Party on social media?

Yes, we are primarily active on Bluesky, but have other social media accounts. This is in order to get our message out, not as an endorsement of social media.
