America is behind and crumbling<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

When looking around the world, it becomes obvious. America\u2019s infrastructure is from the 20th<\/sup> century. It is woefully behind the rest of the developed world. We need to do better and fast. The ACP\u2019s position is that people need jobs and this country needs building. Post pandemic, we saw fast rehiring, but now that trend is reversing. With the self-inflicted economic headwinds soon to come, we need to have a plan for idle labor. One of those plans should include rebuilding America\u2019s massive infrastructure.

On top of rebuilding, we should be upgrading and implementing new systems. We would purpose a plan to build a bullet train for the eastern seaboard and a spur to major Midwest cities like Chicago. We think California\u2019s handling of their rail project has been disastrous and quite clearly, this project needs to be exponentially more cost and time efficient. The reason for the bullet train is simple. People and goods travel too much via our already clogged freeways, which are difficult and expensive to expand.

We must remove lead pipes from service throughout the nation. We are doing everyone, but especially our children, a disservice by exposing them to this toxic heavy metal. How can we become world leaders in science and technology, if our children suffer cognitive setbacks from lead exposure?

Our energy infrastructure also needs a 21st<\/sup> century upgrade. Powerlines need to be built and powerplants need to run clean, but that is a massive task. Nevertheless, we are still a country that can build great things. Things like the Hoover Dam, Golden Gate Bridge, and the Saturn V Rocket. We have it in us. Let\u2019s have our time while we are here, prove, to future generations, that America is undeniably tenacious and capable.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Yes. The world is playing a dangerous game with mass extinction due to climate change. We need to do better and lead the way as Americans. However, changing our energy mix overnight is impossible. Though that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t work tirelessly to change it.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Are you purposing an FDR style public works program?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Yes. It was a stroke of genius in uncertain times. With the economy soon in the gutter, people need work to feed themselves and their families. Public works projects are a win win. Society benefits and the economy recovers quicker.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Are you for nuclear power?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Yes. A larger portion of the energy mix needs to come from nuclear, while we work the kinks out of renewables. There is no such thing as clean coal. The more greenhouse gasses escape, the less time we have to solve our problems. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

We love the speed, efficiency, and timeliness of Japan’s bullet trains. They are the model of what could be a massive improvement in public transportation for this nation.
